Prague uses one integrated ticket system for trams, buses, the metro, trolleybuses, and most local PID trains within the city. Prague public transport tickets prices depend on how you buy them. From 2026, tickets bought in the PID Lítačka app are usually slightly cheaper than paper tickets.
This guide explains current prices, Prague public transport tickets types, where to buy them, and how to validate them correctly.
ℹ️ All prices and rules are based on the official PID tariff.
Prague Public Transport Ticket Types and Prices
One ticket lets you transfer between the metro, trams, buses, trolleybuses, and PID trains within Prague until it expires.
The table below shows standard full fares. For reduced fares and free travel, see Prague Public Transport Discounts for Tourists.
| Ticket | PID Lítačka app | Paper ticket |
|---|---|---|
| 30 minutes | 36 CZK | 39 CZK |
| 90 minutes | 46 CZK | 50 CZK |
| 24 hours | 140 CZK | 150 CZK |
| 72 hours | 340 CZK | 350 CZK |
Which Ticket Should You Choose?
The best ticket depends on both the length of your stay and how often you will use public transport. If you plan to walk most of the time, individual tickets may be cheaper than a pass.
💡 Tickets in the PID Lítačka app are the cheapest option.
| Your travel plans | Option to consider |
|---|---|
| Only a few journeys during your stay | Individual 30-minute or 90-minute tickets |
| Frequent travel over one day | A 24-hour ticket |
| Frequent travel over three days | A 72-hour ticket |
| Frequent travel during a longer stay | Compare short-term tickets with the personal 30-day pass |

How to Buy a Prague Public Transport Ticket
Choose the option that suits your situation:
- In the PID Lítačka app. Buy your ticket and activate it before traveling. Wait until the one-minute activation countdown finishes before boarding or entering the metro’s paid area.
- Paper ticket for current journey or for later. Buy from a large yellow ticket machine. Stamp it once before entering the metro’s paid area or immediately after boarding a tram or bus.
- Ticket when boarding a tram or bus. Enter through a door marked with the contactless payment symbol and buy a ticket immediately from the card-only machine. It is valid from purchase—do not stamp it again.
⚠️ Have a valid ticket from the start of your journey. Buying or activating one after inspectors appear will not prevent a fine.
Monthly Prague Public Transport Pass
If you are staying for a week or more, a 30-day pass may be cheaper than buying several day tickets. Register in the PID Lítačka app, add a photo, register your phone as a travel identifier, and purchase the pass. Alternatively, use a physical Lítačka card.
| Pass | Price | How to buy |
|---|---|---|
| Personal 30-day pass | 550 CZK | Register in the PID Lítačka app, or apply for a physical Lítačka card at a contact point |
| Anonymous 30-day pass | 1,000 CZK | Buy at a DPP information center or selected sales point |
💡 Include registration in your decision: The personal 30-day pass requires registration and a photo, so allow time to set it up.

Personal pass: linked to one person and requires registration and a photo. A physical Lítačka card may also require an issuance fee and preparation time.
Anonymous pass: no registration, can be used by one person at a time.
Where to Buy Prague Public Transport Tickets
You can buy tickets in the PID Lítačka app, from ticket machines, or at selected shops and official sales points. Some tickets need activation or stamping; others are valid immediately.
PID Lítačka App
Tickets in the official PID Lítačka app cost less than paper tickets.
- Download the app and select English under Jazyk (Language).
- Tap Buy a Ticket, choose your ticket, and pay.
- Activate it and wait for the one-minute countdown to finish before boarding or entering the metro’s paid area.

ℹ️ Show the ticket’s QR code during an inspection.
Ticket Machines at Metro Stations
The machines shown below issue tickets with different validation rules:
- Large touch-screen machines: Accept cards and Czech coins. You can buy tickets for later, but must stamp them once before travel.
- Small card-only machines (the left one in the photo): Accept cards and mobile payments. Tickets are valid immediately, so buy them only when you are ready to travel. Do not stamp them.

Ticket Machines Inside Trams and Buses
Enter through a door marked with the contactless payment symbol and buy your ticket immediately after boarding. Choose a ticket, pay by card or mobile phone, and take the printed ticket.
It is valid immediately—do not stamp it. These terminals sell 30-minute, 90-minute, and 24-hour tickets, but not 72-hour tickets.

Buy your ticket immediately after boarding.
ℹ️ Ticket machines are often near the second door, not at every entrance. If you don’t see one where you board, walk through the tram or bus to find it and buy your ticket immediately.
Trafika and Tabák Shops
Some Trafika, Relay and Tabák shops sell paper tickets for later use. Stamp your ticket once before entering the metro’s paid area or immediately after boarding a tram or bus.
How to Validate Your Prague Transport Ticket
Buying a ticket does not always mean it is ready to use. Some paper tickets need stamping before travel. This is called validation, and it starts the ticket’s validity period.

Paper ticket bought in advance
Stamp it once in a yellow validation machine before entering the metro’s paid area or immediately after boarding a tram or bus. Your ticket’s validity starts from the time printed by the machine.
PID Lítačka app ticket
Activate it before traveling. Wait until the one-minute countdown finishes before boarding or entering the metro’s paid area.
Ticket bought from a card-only machine
It is valid immediately after purchase. Do not stamp it.
⚠️ Do not stamp a paper ticket again when transferring. Keep using the same ticket until it expires. A second stamp may make it unreadable or invalid.
Where Are the Validation Machines?
- Metro: before entering the marked paid area, usually near the escalators.
- Trams and buses: inside the vehicle, near the doors.
- PID trains: often on or near the platform. Some trains have onboard machines, but check the station’s arrangements before boarding.
What Happens If You Travel Without a Valid Ticket?
Ticket inspectors regularly check passengers in Prague. A paper ticket that requires stamping is not valid until you stamp it. An app ticket is not valid until its activation countdown finishes.
Traveling without a valid ticket can lead to a 2,000 CZK fine, with reduced amounts available if you pay promptly. Forgetting to stamp or activate your ticket does not exempt you from a fine.
For payment options, reduced fines, and your rights during an inspection, read Fine for Traveling Without a Ticket in Prague.

Is the Petřín funicular included?
Yes, with a 24-hour ticket, 72-hour ticket, or long-term Prague pass. Regular 30-minute and 90-minute tickets are not valid on the funicular. If you need a separate ticket, one ride costs 100 CZK, or 90 CZK in the PID Lítačka app.

For exceptions and train or Airport Express rules, see How to Pay for Luggage on Prague Public Transport.
