Not everyone in Prague has to pay the full price for a public transport ticket. Some groups get big discounts, and some ride completely free.
The rules can be a bit confusing, so let’s look at who qualifies for Discounts for Prague Public Transport!
One Ticket, All Transport
This is important! Prague uses time-based tickets. Once you validate your ticket, you can use it for ANY type of public transport (metro, tram, bus) and transfer as many times as you need, as long as the total travel time fits within the limit (e.g., 30 minutes or 90 minutes, 24- or 72-hours).
💡Your ticket is valid for the time shown, not for a single ride.
Half-Price Tickets (Discounts for Prague Public Transport)
A discounted ticket is usually half the price of a full ticket
For seniors (60–65 years) and socially needy persons traveling within Prague (Zones P, 0, B).
| Validity | Time Limit | Paper Ticket | App Price | Zone Combination |
| Prague | 30 min | 19 Kč | 18 Kč | P-0-B (Prague) |
| Prague | 90 min ** | 25 Kč | 23 Kč | P-0-B (Prague) |
💡 Important Fact for 2026:
There is one big “secret” to saving money. From January 1, 2026, the prices changed. The PID Lítačka app is the cheapest. Paper tickets are now the most expensive. Foe example: a 30-minute paper ticket costs 39 CZK, but if you use the PID Lítačka app, it only costs 36 CZK. This is the best way to get a discount every time you ride!
| Group | Age/Status | Requirement |
| Children | 6 to 15 years old | None (but carry ID/Passport if the child looks older!) |
| Youth | 15 to 18 years old | Must show a valid student ID or Prague transport card (Lítačka) with proof of age. |
| Students | 18 to 26 years old | Discounts mainly apply to long-term passes (month, quarter, year). Requires official proof of study and a Lítačka card. |
| Seniors | 65 to 70 years old | Must prove age with an ID or Lítačka card. |
Completely Free Travel! 100% Discounts for Prague Public Transport
These groups do not need a ticket at all, but some must carry proof.
- Small Children: Up to 6 years old. No ticket needed.
- Older Seniors: Over 70 years old. Must carry an official ID or Lítačka card to prove age.
- Disabled People: Often free (plus one assistant), but you usually need an official Czech disability card.
- Prams with Children: If you are pushing a baby stroller with a child inside, you ride for free.

Critical Rules to Avoid Fines
You must always have a valid ticket! An invalid ticket is the same as having no ticket at all.
| Rule | Details | Fine (Penalty) |
| Validation | If you buy a paper ticket, you must stamp it in the yellow machine when you first enter the metro area or board a tram/bus. | Current fine is 2,000 CZK (reduced to 1,200 CZK if paid immediately). |
| Proof | If you buy a discounted ticket, you must always carry the required ID/Card (Lítačka, Passport, etc.). | Same fine as above. |

💡 Important Notes About Discounts
- Lítačka Card. Many discounts (youth, students, seniors) require a PID Lítačka card—a plastic card issued in Prague. If you’re just visiting for a few days, it’s not worth the paperwork to get one.
- Tourists and Discounts. Most student and senior discounts are for Czech residents with local documents. For tourists, the safest option is to buy full-price tickets unless you clearly qualify (small kids, 70+ years).
My Personal Advice:
If you’re a visitor and not traveling with little kids or someone over 70, don’t bother with discounts for Prague Public Transport. Just buy regular tickets—it saves time and avoids awkward situations with inspectors.
