How to Get There by Car
Driving between these locations is fast and easy. The three towns are only 7 to 12 kilometers away from each other.

- Brno ⇄ Mikulov: 40–60 minutes (depending on highway D1 traffic).

💡 GPS Navigation Tip: Do not just type the town name into your GPS. Set your navigation directly to “Castle” (Zámek) or the town center. The main parking lots are easy to find and sit just a 2-to-5-minute walk from the sights.
Parking in Lednice: Cash vs. QR Code
Parking in the center of Lednice (by the castle fence) costs around 35–40 CZK per hour or 300 CZK for a full day.
- Paying with Coins: Some older physical machines only accept cash. You print a paper ticket and place it on your car dashboard.
- Paying with Card (The QR Code Trick): Look for a QR code sticker on the machine. Scan it with your phone to open lednice.parkum.cz. Enter your license plate (SPZ) and pay instantly via credit card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. You do not need a paper ticket for your dashboard if you pay online.
Valtice Parking: Free Spots vs. Pre-Paid Traps
Valtice is very driver-friendly, but watch where you park:
- The Free Lot: The parking area on Pod Zámkem Street is completely free and very close to the castle gates. It fills up by 9:30 AM on sunny weekends, so arrive early.
- The Advance Pay Trap: Avoid the parking lot on Sklepní Street. Here, you must pay before you leave your car. It is hard to guess exactly how many hours you will need for castle tours or wine tasting.
Mikulov’s Strict Parking Zones
Mikulov has strict parking rules to protect local residents.
- 1-Hour Free Rule: In paid visitor lots (marked as C1), the first hour is free once a day. You must enter your license plate into the machine or the EasyPark app to activate it.
- Avoid Area A: The historical center is for residents only. If you park here, you will get a heavy fine or a wheel boot.
- Supermarket Danger: Do not park all day at the Lidl or Tesco in Mikulov. They monitor the lots for tourists and fine drivers who stay too long.
Public Transport vs. Car: Is It Worth It?
If you do not have a car, public transport from Brno to Mikulov or the Lednice-Valtice area takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Because cars often get stuck in highway traffic or search for parking, public transport is just as fast.
Bus 105 (Brno ⇄ Mikulov) is the only direct route. Other routes require one quick transfer. Changing from a train to a bus at Břeclav or Podivín stations takes only two minutes. The stations are very small, schedules match perfectly, and it is easy to navigate even with bags.

⚠️ CRUCIAL TRAIN WARNING: Do not get off at the station named “Valtice.” It sits in open fields and requires a 20-minute walk. Always exit at Valtice město (Valtice Town) to arrive directly in the center.
3. Brno ⇄ Lednice (The Podivín Shortcut)
Local travelers use a smart trick to reach Lednice faster without traveling all the way down to Břeclav.
- Step 1: Take the R13 fast train from Brno, but get off early at Podivín (the stop before Břeclav).
- The Transfer: Walk out the front door of the tiny Podivín station. The bus stops are right outside.
- Step 2: Board Bus 555 or Bus 570. It takes just 15 minutes to reach Lednice, náměstí next to the castle gardens.
