💡 GPS Navigation Tip: Do not just type the town name into your GPS. Set your navigation directly to “Castle” (Zámek) or the town center. The main parking lots are easy to find and sit just a 2-to-5-minute walk from the sights.

Parking in Lednice: Cash vs. QR Code

Parking in the center of Lednice (by the castle fence) costs around 35–40 CZK per hour or 300 CZK for a full day.

  • Paying with Coins: Some older physical machines only accept cash. You print a paper ticket and place it on your car dashboard.
  • Paying with Card (The QR Code Trick): Look for a QR code sticker on the machine. Scan it with your phone to open lednice.parkum.cz. Enter your license plate (SPZ) and pay instantly via credit card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. You do not need a paper ticket for your dashboard if you pay online.

Valtice Parking: Free Spots vs. Pre-Paid Traps

Valtice is very driver-friendly, but watch where you park:

  • The Free Lot: The parking area on Pod Zámkem Street is completely free and very close to the castle gates. It fills up by 9:30 AM on sunny weekends, so arrive early.
  • The Advance Pay Trap: Avoid the parking lot on Sklepní Street. Here, you must pay before you leave your car. It is hard to guess exactly how many hours you will need for castle tours or wine tasting.

Mikulov’s Strict Parking Zones

Mikulov has strict parking rules to protect local residents.

  • 1-Hour Free Rule: In paid visitor lots (marked as C1), the first hour is free once a day. You must enter your license plate into the machine or the EasyPark app to activate it.
  • Avoid Area A: The historical center is for residents only. If you park here, you will get a heavy fine or a wheel boot.
  • Supermarket Danger: Do not park all day at the Lidl or Tesco in Mikulov. They monitor the lots for tourists and fine drivers who stay too long.

Where and How to Buy Your Tickets

1. The Mobile App (Best Option)

Download the IDS JMK Poseidon app. You can buy digital tickets on your phone. The app calculates the travel zones automatically and the tickets are cheaper than buying from the driver.

You can easily check live timetables and connections using the IDS JMK online route planner.

Using South Bohemian Validation Machine for Train Tickets

2. At the Train Station

Buy a standard paper ticket at the ticket window. If you buy a regional paper ticket, remember to stamp it in the yellow machine as soon as you board the train.

3. From the Bus Driver

You can buy tickets directly from the driver with cash or a contactless credit card. If you are new to using regional buses here, you might want to look at our general guide on how to travel by bus in the Czech Republic first.

Regional drivers rarely speak English, so use these simple tips:

  • How to pay: Show your card and say “Karta” (card) or show cash and say “Hotově” (cash).
  • Buying for a group: Do not just say “dva” (two) or “tři” (three). Use the correct words for ticket counts: say “dvakrát” (two tickets) or “třikrát” (three tickets) plus your destination (for example: “Dvakrát, Lednice”).
  • The Phone Trick: If you cannot pronounce the town name, simply type the name of the stop on your phone screen and show it to the driver.

💡 Money-Saving Tip: The Weekend Family Pass

If you travel on a Saturday, Sunday, or public holiday, do not buy individual tickets. Buy a 24-hour regional all-zones ticket for 250 CZK.

  • The Deal: On weekends, this 250 CZK ticket automatically becomes a Family Pass.
  • Who it covers: Up to 5 people total (maximum 2 adults and 3 children under 15).
  • Where it works: Unlimited rides for 24 hours on all regional buses, local trains, and city trams in Brno.

Writer’s Note: Even for just two adults traveling together without kids, this 250 CZK weekend pass is cheaper than buying two normal round-trip train tickets from Brno to Mikulov! You can buy it in the Poseidon app, from any bus driver, or at the train station counter.
