You do not need to travel into central Prague before going to Karlovy Vary. Direct RegioJet and FlixBus services leave from Václav Havel Airport Prague and normally reach Karlovy Vary in about 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes.
For most travelers, the direct bus is the best combination of price and convenience. A private transfer is faster from door to door, but it costs much more.
Prague Airport to Karlovy Vary at a Glance
| Option | Typical travel time | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Direct bus | About 1 hr 30 min–1 hr 50 min | Most travelers |
| Private transfer or taxi | About 1 hr 20 min–1 hr 40 min | Families, groups and late arrivals |
| Rental car | About 1 hr 20 min–1 hr 40 min | Travelers continuing around the region |
| Bus via central Prague | Usually 2 hr 30 min or more in total | A backup when no airport bus suits you |
| Train via Prague | Usually more than 4 hours in total | Rarely practical for this journey |
Times are approximate. Traffic, roadworks and the connection you choose can make the journey longer.
Is There a Direct Bus from Prague Airport to Karlovy Vary?
Yes. Both RegioJet and FlixBus operate direct buses between Prague Airport and Karlovy Vary. You stay on the same bus and do not need to use the Prague metro or change at Florenc.
The route is especially convenient because Prague Airport is west of the city, in the same general direction as Karlovy Vary.
RegioJet or FlixBus: Which One Should You Choose?
There is no major difference between the two companies on this route. Choose the direct bus that fits your arrival time and offers the better price.
Before booking, check the journey time and the arrival stop in Karlovy Vary. RegioJet services normally stop at Tržnice and then Terminál, while some direct FlixBus services go only to Terminál. The current direct services do not stop between Prague Airport and Karlovy Vary. Longer FlixBus results that travel through Florenc are not direct journeys.
You can check journeys on the RegioJet website, the FlixBus Prague Airport–Karlovy Vary page or IDOS. Prices vary according to the departure and booking date.
How to Find the Bus Stop
The long-distance bus stops are under a long roof opposite the Courtyard by Marriott Prague Airport and the airport parking building. They are separate from the city bus stops directly outside the terminals.

From Terminal 1: Leave the arrivals area and walk toward the Marriott hotel and parking building. Follow the pedestrian route alongside the outdoor parking area. When you reach the covered bus platform, check the signs and find the stop for your operator.
From Terminal 2: Leave the arrivals area and follow the pedestrian route alongside the outdoor parking area toward the Marriott hotel. You do not need to walk to Terminal 1. Continue until you reach the covered bus platform. This route is only slightly longer than the walk from Terminal 1.
RegioJet and FlixBus use separate stops under the same long roof. Their stops are close to each other, so check the company name shown on your ticket and on the signs at the platform.
How Much Time Should You Leave After Your Flight?
Do not book a bus that departs shortly after your plane is scheduled to land. You still need time to leave the aircraft, pass through the airport and collect any checked luggage.
As a practical guide:
- Around 60–90 minutes may be enough after a Schengen flight if you only have hand luggage.
- Around 90–120 minutes is safer if you have checked luggage or must pass through passport control.
- Leave a larger margin when delays are common or when missing the bus would cause a serious problem.
These times are not guarantees. A late flight, passport-control queue or delayed suitcase can quickly use the available margin.
⚠️ Buses do not wait for passengers whose flights are delayed.
How to Book the Correct Airport Bus
You can buy a RegioJet or FlixBus ticket online. When searching, choose Prague Airport, Terminal 1 as the departure point and check that the journey is marked as direct. Search using your exact travel date. Departure times and the last direct bus of the day can differ on weekends and public holidays.
🚨 Be careful with the departure point. If you want to board at Prague Airport, select the airport stop when booking. Do not assume that a ticket booked from Florenc can be used at the airport instead. FlixBus explicitly states that tickets are valid only for the stop selected during booking; RegioJet tickets also show a specific departure stop.

Should You Book Before Your Flight or After Landing?
Booking ahead is the safest choice during busy periods. Many students travel to Karlovy Vary at the end of the week, while festival visitors create extra demand. During these periods, book as early as possible. Buses are often crowded:
- on Friday afternoons and evenings;
- on Saturday mornings;
- around the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, especially shortly before and after the event.
If you are traveling at a quieter time and can wait for a later bus, you can also book after landing. Collect your luggage first, check the available departures, and choose the next suitable bus. This avoids paying for a bus you might miss because of a delayed flight, but the next departure could be full or more expensive.
If you reach the stop without a ticket, ask the driver whether any seats are available. If space remains, the driver can usually sell you a ticket, and card payment is normally possible. Treat this as a backup option because an available seat is not guaranteed, especially during the busy periods listed above.
What If Your Flight Is Delayed? Changing/Canceling Rules
If your flight is delayed and you know you will miss the bus, change or cancel your booking before the operator’s deadline.
- FlixBus: You can cancel up to 15 minutes before departure. However, canceling less than two days before departure returns only 20% of the ticket price as a voucher, not money. Booking and service fees are not refunded. Changing to a later bus also comes under the cancellation rules, and you may need to pay a fare difference. See the FlixBus cancellation policy.
- RegioJet: RegioJet says eligible online tickets can be changed or canceled free of charge up to 15 minutes before departure. Check the deadline and conditions displayed for your particular ticket before paying. See RegioJet’s ticket information
A flight delay does not automatically move your booking to the next bus. Leave enough time after landing, even if your ticket allows cancellation.
Where to Get Off in Karlovy Vary?
Depending on the service, buses from Prague Airport arrive at Tržnice, Terminál, or both. RegioJet normally stops at Tržnice and then Terminál, while some FlixBus services go only to Terminál. When Tržnice is available, it is the better choice for most visitors.
Tržnice: Best for Most Visitors
Choose Karlovy Vary, Tržnice if you are staying in or near the central and spa areas. After leaving the bus, you can reach T. G. Masaryka Street in about two minutes. From there, the route toward the historic spa center is mostly flat with a slight uphill slope.
Tržnice is also an important local transport point. City and regional buses stop on the opposite side of the road, so you can continue to another part of Karlovy Vary or travel to Horní nádraží, the city’s main railway station.
Terminál: Useful for Regional Bus Connections
Choose Karlovy Vary, Terminál if your accommodation is nearby or you need another regional or long-distance bus. Services from here travel to places such as Loket, Mariánské Lázně and Chomutov.
Terminál is beside Dolní nádraží, but only a limited number of trains use this station. Most trains stop at Horní nádraží. If you need Horní nádraží, getting off at Tržnice and taking a local bus is usually more convenient.
Terminál is also less convenient for walking into the center with luggage. The walk toward T. G. Masaryka Street takes approximately 10–15 minutes and includes stairs and an underpass.
For maps and a fuller explanation of both Karlovy Vary stops, see our guide to traveling from Prague to Karlovy Vary.
What If There Is No Suitable Direct Bus?
First, check the next direct departure from the airport. Waiting at the terminal may be simpler and faster than crossing Prague with luggage.
If the waiting time is too long, you can travel to a Prague departure stop and continue by direct bus:
Via Hradčanská
Take trolleybus 59 from the airport to Nádraží Veleslavín, then continue by metro line A to Hradčanská. The long-distance RegioJet and FlixBus stop is separate from the regular tram and city-bus stops, so use the location shown on your ticket.
Via Florenc
Take bus 100 from the airport to Zličín, then take metro line B directly to Florenc. From Florenc Bus Station, continue by a direct bus to Karlovy Vary.
This route is clear, but traveling into Prague adds time. Remember that you need a Prague public transport ticket for the airport-to-city part and a separate long-distance bus ticket for Karlovy Vary.
What About Going via Zličín?
RegioJet and FlixBus do not currently operate direct buses from Zličín to Karlovy Vary.
PID route 305 provides a connection, but it makes many intermediate stops and normally takes longer. For most airport travelers, a direct airport bus or a connection through Hradčanská or Florenc is a better option.
Prague Airport to Karlovy Vary by Private Transfer or Taxi
A private transfer takes you directly from the arrivals area to your hotel. The journey normally takes about 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes in light traffic.
This option can make sense when:
- several people are sharing the price;
- you have a lot of luggage;
- you are traveling with small children or a passenger with limited mobility;
- your flight arrives after the last practical bus;
- your accommodation is outside central Karlovy Vary.
Prices depend on the vehicle and provider, but a standard private car often costs approximately 3,000–4,000 CZK per vehicle. Check whether the quoted price includes flight monitoring, waiting time, parking and travel to your exact address.
An ordinary metered taxi can cost more or be less predictable. For this long journey, it is better to arrange and confirm a fixed total price before departure.
From Prague Airport to Karlovy Vary by Rental Car
Driving from the airport to Karlovy Vary normally takes about 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes in light traffic. The route mainly follows the D6 toward Karlovy Vary.
A rental car is useful if Karlovy Vary is only one stop in a longer trip around western Czechia. If you plan to stay only in the spa center, a car is less useful because much of this area has restricted access and parking is limited or paid.
Part of the D6 is a toll motorway. Most rental cars registered in the Czech Republic already have the required electronic motorway vignette, but confirm this with the rental company.
Can You Take a Train from Prague Airport to Karlovy Vary?
There is no railway station at Prague Airport and no direct airport train to Karlovy Vary. It is possible to travel from Prague Airport to Prague Main Railway Station first and then take a direct Krušnohor train to Karlovy Vary. However, the train journey from the main station takes about 3.5 hours, before adding the trip across Prague from the airport. This makes the complete journey much longer than the direct airport bus.
Choose this option only if you specifically prefer train travel or need to stop in Prague first.
Which Prague Airport to Karlovy Vary Option Is Best?
For most travelers, the direct bus from Prague Airport to Karlovy Vary is the best choice. It avoids central Prague, costs much less than a private transfer and brings you to Tržnice or Terminál without a change.
Choose a private transfer when convenience matters more than price, especially for a group or a late arrival. Rent a car if you plan to explore more of the Karlovy Vary Region. Traveling through central Prague should normally be a backup rather than the first plan.
